Nickel Production in Indonesia

In a monumental agreement, PT Vale Indonesia, China's Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co., and Ford Motor Co. have joined forces to revolutionize sustainable nickel production in Indonesia, making electric vehicle batteries more affordable. The collaboration, which includes investments in the Pomalaa Block High-Pressure Acid Leaching Project, promises to produce a lower-cost nickel product essential for EV batteries.

This innovative partnership not only supports the auto industry's transition to EVs but also bolsters Indonesia's EV manufacturing sector. The three companies' united efforts emphasize environmentally and socially responsible mining practices and aim to meet Ford's target of a 2 million EV production run rate by the end of 2026. This groundbreaking project is expected to generate 12,000 construction jobs and ultimately strengthen Indonesia's position as a key player in the global EV ecosystem.
