EV News

 Q3 Sales for EVs are out.  Here are some key takeaways;

  • Top Spot for Q3 sales- Tesla Model Y with 60,271 vehicles sold
  • Top Spot for YTD sales- Tesla Model Y with 191,451 vehicles sold.
  • Largest YOY Q3 increase in sales- Polestar 2 with a 243% increase
  • Largest YOY YTD increase in sales- Polestar 2 with a 500.20% increase
  • Largest Market Share YTD- Tesla Model Y with a 33.20% market share.
  • Tesla has nearly 70% of the market share YTD for 2022. 67.80% to be exact.
In other EV News
  • Cadillac’s new $300,000 Celestiq EV will arrive in 2024. The EV is expected to have a range of more than 300 miles, 600 horsepower, and go from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
  • Volkswagen was beaten by Tesla as the #1 EV manufacturer in Germany. For the first three quarters of 2022, Tesla registered 38,458 vehicles which is 6,000 more than VW.
  • The Mercedes-Benz EQE has turned into an electric SUV. The SUV is expected to hit dealerships in 2023, but there’s no announced price yet. 
  • EV company Dash EV will be establishing its headquarters in Greenville, SC. The operations will create 10 new jobs. 
  • Vietnamese company VinFast is planning new headquarters in Germany, France, and the Netherlands to serve three key European markets better. 
  • Stellantis and Jeep have debuted the EV Jeep Avenger. The car’s targeted range is around 249 miles and will only be sold in Europe.
  • Sony Honda Mobility EVs will hit US roads in 2026. The company will begin taking pre-orders for its EV in the first half of 2025.  
  • Foxconn, best known for assembling Apple products, wants to manufacture for Tesla as the company aims to diversify its business through the EV industry. It recently unveiled the Foxtron Model V Electric pickup truck built completely in Taiwan. 
  • Enel X Way has partnered with Sunrun to supply smart Level 2 EV charging stations for Sunrun’s recently launched EV charger offering. 

EV of the Week

I’m more of a sports car, supercar, hyper car type kind of guy, but now and then I like a luxury vehicle.  Sometimes I’d like to trade in my sporty suspension for something that feels more equivalent to floating in the clouds while getting a massage.  Make it electric too.  That’s why the Rolls Royce Spectre is the EV of the Week.

IKEA will begin testing Kodak’s driverless delivery trucks in Texas. The trucks will make deliveries from a warehouse in Houston to an IKEA store in Dallas, which is around 300 miles away. 


In other AV News

  • To combat a declining supply chain, Cruise has begun manufacturing its own chips, boards, and sensors. With this business move, the company is saving a lot more money. 
  • Volkswagen wants to speed up its process to automate its electric vehicles for its Chinese customers. The company will invest €2.4 billion to form a partnership with Horizon Robotics. 
  • China’s autonomous vehicle market is expected to reach $98.89 billion by 2030 as the country is the second-largest market for autonomous technology.
