Lotus has announced its all-electric 600HP Eletre. The company is planning deliveries to begin early next year in China, Europe, and the UK. Aside from being Lotus’ first EV, it is also their first five-door production car, their first model outside of the sports car segments, and their first lifestyle EV, according to the company’s press release. Users can add 248 miles of range with 20 minutes of charging. The Eletre has a top speed of 161 mph and goes 0-60 in less than 3 seconds.
In other EV News
- Volvo Trucks received an order of 110 electric trucks from Maersk. Volvo’s EV trucks can be 80% charged in 90 minutes with the six-battery package and 60 minutes with the four-battery configuration.
- New York will receive around $175 million in federal funding over the next 5 years to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout the state. Suffolk and Nassau Counties are preparing to receive a sizable portion of the funding to enhance the area’s charging networks due to the vast number of EV owners in each county.
- Washington State’s governor has signed a bill that will ban most non-electric vehicles by 2030. All vehicles of the model year 2030 that are sold or registered in the state must be electric. The bill is part of a larger $16.9 package called “Move Ahead Washington.”
- Poland was ahead of the EV game with the 1977 Fiat 125P. The car had a range of 100 kilometers and could reach up to 80 km/h. Some new wheels and tint, and you are good to go.
- Polestar’s newest launch is the most affordable EV in their fleet. The Polestar 2 Long Range Single motor fastback is now available to order in the US from their website. The vehicle starts at $45,900 or as low as $33,400 with qualified federal and state incentives and has a range of 270 miles.
- Can-Am’s two new electric motorcycles will mark the brand’s 50th anniversary. As of now, there have not been any specific details released about the new lineup or a specific date in which the EVs will be launched.
- The United States Postal Service has placed its first order for 50,000 mail trucks from Oshkosh Defense. A minimum of 10,019 of them will be zero-emissions battery electric vehicles built in Spartanburg, SC.
EV of the Week
The EV of the week is our trusty company car, the Kia Niro EV. We took the Niro up to the mountains this weekend for a business trip and it was great, especially with current gas prices. It handled the hills perfectly, but it did need a good washing after the trip. When we left Keystone, CO, we had 119 miles of range left. Our journey back home was around 76 miles and when we got to our destination, we had around 70 miles of range left. Not too bad. -John @ Mobility EVo.

AV of the Week
Mercedes-AMG has programmed a self-driving GT 4-door Coupe to drive around a test track. The vehicle will be able to reach speeds of up to 170 km/h. The technology is not available for public use yet, but the company wanted to show off its advanced driver assistance systems (check out the video above). In other Mercedes news, the company will accept legal responsibility for accidents involving its self-driving cars. With their Level 3 autonomy, it is unlikely that life-or-death situations will occur since the technology operates at low speeds.
In other AV News
- Toyota and Aurora have begun testing an autonomous driving fleet service in Texas. The testing includes two safety operators but no passengers in Toyota’s Sienna minivans. Aurora’s autonomous technology will be tested on highways and suburban streets in the Dallas-Fort-Worth area.
- Ford has created an autonomous vehicle unit, Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC, alongside Ford Next. Ford CEO, Jim Farley, has divided the company into two units: an operation for electric and autonomous vehicles and one for traditional ICE vehicles.
- NVIDIA will chart 500,000 km of roads for Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous vehicles. The venture, called Drive Map, will be completed by 2024 and utilize camera, radar, and LIDAR system technology.
- Verizon and Cisco collaborated on a concept demo to prove that cellular and mobile edge computer technology can further enhance autonomous technology for vehicles. Verizon’s press release stated that this finding could reduce the need for physical Roadside Units to extend radio signals.
- Charging company, Chargepoint, will provide charging infrastructure for Gatik customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Customers adopting Gatik’s Class 3-6 electric and autonomous vehicles will be able to use the widespread infrastructure.
